Timid dog that spent years locked in a cage searching for a new home

He spent years locked up in a cage - and was only allowed outside in the garden once a day.

Poor Uncle Rodger was rescued by an RSPCA inspector and taken to Ashley Heath Animal Centre after living like a prisoner in his previous home.

The six-year-old has developed a dislike to other dogs - which is most likely due to being undersocialised - and can be timid when he is unfamiliar with something.

A statement reads: "Roger is one of a number of dogs removed from a property by an inspector. They were kept individually in crates and cages around the home.

"They have not had a lot of experience in the world outside the home and only had rotated access to the garden once a day.

He needs an experienced owner (RSPCA)

"He is seeking a quiet home with an experienced adopter that will be willing to continue his training. The environment will need to be free from children and other animals, with access to a secure garden for him to unwind in."

Despite everything he has been through, Uncle Roger loves spending time with humans and wants to be known as a well behaved dog.

"Roger is famously known at the animal centre for his fantastic hairstyle and his quirky personality," the statement adds.

"When being trained, he prefers praise over food rewards and his little face lights up with a cheery expression when he hears the words 'good boy'."

Uncle Roger is a Chinese Crested, meaning he has an almost hairless body, so he might need to wear dog suntan location when spending time outdoors this summer.

The statement adds: "Roger has been learning to wear a muzzle, respond to his name, recall when called off-lead and an exercise called 'lets go' which enables him to calmly walk away from things that worry him.

"All of which has been achieved through giving him lots of fuss and attention.

"Roger has made good progress with his training so far as he thrives on the attention he receives during the sessions.

"His caregivers love to hangout with him as he snuggles in close. We know once settled in around the house he will make a good companion animal but his reactions towards other dogs will require ongoing management.

"He has a hairless body, a trait that adds an essence of charm to his character. Roger has had a hard life. He deserves someone special that will have enough time and love for him."
