A 49-year-old woman with two recorded mental-health encounters with the NYPD seven and eight years ago stabbed two strangers to death in the heart of Times Square before officers shot her dead.
The attack, described by police as 'random and unprovoked', claimed the life of Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America vice-president, and left a 68-year-old man fighting for his life.
