McDonald's customers have been left shocked as the fast food restaurant appears to have started charging for dips.
People have taken to social media to share their surprise at the charge, which appears to impact pots of ketchup, BBQ, curry and sweet and sour sauces at some restaurants. Tiktok user Samantha Butler posted a video showing a McDonald's employee sticking a 'Dips from 10p' sign on a self-service machine inside one restaurant.
"McDonald’s charging 10p for dips now," she captioned the video. Customers who were stung by the charge were quick to share their disapproval on Twitter too.
@batuhan1868 said: "You know times are truly tough when McDonald’s begin charging £0.10p a pop for BBQ dip" as @superssonic complained: "@McDonalds 10p for sauce now are you taking the p**s".
@stepbackT60 penned: "As if I didn’t know we were in a cost of living crisis already, I’ve just found out that McDonald’s has started charging 10p for pots of sauce. Next I’ll be finding out Freddo’s are 50p or more" while @travislyndon added: "Dips now 10p at McDonald's real end of days stuff."
Twitter user @xheksiipecii said: "McDonald’s charging 10p for dips now? Everything is falling apart" meanwhile @StaceyLian asked: "Apparently @McDonalds will now be charging 10p for dips...what about all the times I asked for A (solo) dip and they gave me a handful...? They could have saved money there".
A McDonald's spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News : "This is not a McDonald's-wide policy. The majority of our restaurants are ran by franchisees who are able to set prices at their discretion.
"Some franchisees may take the decision to charge customers for sauces where they are not included as part of a meal."
