Timeline of Clare stabbing incident as fresh details emerge about garda enquiry and condition of young girl

Gardai are waiting to speak to the mum of a young girl who was stabbed 75 times once medics declare her fit.

Officers investigating the incident are keen to speak to the 46-year-old woman to establish a timeline of events leading up to the incident which saw her and her daughter left in critical care.

Here's everything we know so far;

Tuesday morning - young girl and woman discovered

Gardai discovered the child before 8am on Tuesday morning at a house near Clarecastle, Co Clare, which is near the town of Ennis.

Her mum, 46, was also discovered unconscious at the scene.

The girl had severe injuries after being stabbed multiple times to the neck and body.

Wednesday - girl transferred to Dublin hospital after frenzied attack

It emerged the young girl fighting for life after a frenzied knife attack at a house was stabbed 75 times - but miraculously none of her major organs were hit.

The Irish Mirror learned that the eight-year-old Ukrainian refugee was in Crumlin Children's Hospital, after being transferred from Limerick, where medics continue to treat her.

The child's mother remained in Limerick University Hospital and is also in critical condition.

It is understood that the results of a toxicology report are being awaited which may give a reasoning to her collapse.

The Irish Mirror learned that gardai were not looking for anyone else in relation to the case.

Thursday - gardai were alerted by screaming

Gardai and emergency services were alerted to the scene where a young girl was stabbed in Clare by other residents in the house after they heard of screaming.

Some attempted to gain access to the room but were unable and then raised the alarm.

The child and mother were staying at a property, understood to be a former B&B, which is being used to host Ukrainians who have fled the war.

After the mum and child were brought to hospital, the remaining occupants, who will be interviewed by detectives, were transferred to alternative accommodation in Ennis.

Officers have also conducted door-to-door enquiries. It’s understood the child had recently started primary school.

Friday - gardai wait to interview mother

Gardai are waiting to speak to the mum of the young girl once medics declare her fit.

The child has undergone surgery at Crumlin's Children's Hospital and hopes for her survival are growing.

Despite being knifed 75 times, none of her major organs were hit.

The mother remains in Limerick University Hospital and it is believed at this stage that she will survive.

A source said: "Gardai want to speak to the woman but that may take some time because she's not medically fit and won't be for a while.

"The young girl has undergone surgery in Dublin and she is stable but remains critical."
