Tim Sherwood names Liverpool player that has led to new tactic perfected by Man City

Liverpool have been told by a pundit they have picked up a trait Manchester City have often used to their success.

The Reds are battling with Man City in the race for the Premier League title race, and are now just three points behind the leaders.

Wednesday night’s 6-0 hammering of Leeds United narrowed the gap between Liverpool and Man City, thanks to braces from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as well as goals from Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.

Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood thinks he’s spotted a tactical change for the Reds in their recent week.

Sherwood has argued why the addition of Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool’s ranks meant that the Reds have added a tactical set-up to their game similar to Man City’s.

"I think they've got two ways of playing now," Sherwood told Premier League Productions.

"I think Man City always had the edge where they could counter attack at 100 miles per hour with the best of them, but they could also keep the ball, rest on the football.

"I think Liverpool do that now, certainly with Thiago when he's back in that midfield.

"Tonight it wasn't about turning it into a basketball match like we saw at the weekend with Man United.

"They want it to be a chaos game, Leeds United and [Marcelo] Bielsa, but [Liverpool] didn't allow it.

"What was it? 65 per cent possession tonight, keep the ball off them.

"They were never in the football match and Thiago controlled the tempo."
