My former colleague Tim Pulleine, who has died aged 84, was a home news subeditor at the Guardian from 1976 until his retirement in 2007. He was also a highly regarded film critic, who, for well over a decade, between the late 1970s and early 90s, served as Derek Malcolm’s deputy at the Guardian, reviewing movies and interviewing actors.
He was a regular contributor to the British Film Institute’s Monthly Film Bulletin and Sight & Sound magazines, and to a number of other publications, on subjects including Ealing films, horror and Hollywood heart-throbs. He also wrote obituaries for the Guardian of movie figures including Omar Sharif, Jerry Lewis, Sir John Mills, Roger Vadim, David Hemmings and Glynis Johns, and conducted interviews with actors such as Ian McKellen.
