The NFL season may officially be over, but that is not going to stop the hot takes from flowing. One of the bigger storylines this Spring will be where former Seahawks and Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson will end up. After two disastrous seasons in Denver, Wilson is now looking for his third NFL home.
But if ESPN analyst Tim Hasselbeck is to be believed, there is perhaps a chance Wilson is still looking for said home come the fall. On ESPN’s show Get Up, the former journeyman quarterback believes there is a chance Wilson is out of the league.

This certainly feels like the hottest of hot takes, and one that does not seem all that likely. Then again, this is the NFL we’re talking about, where the unpredictability year in, year out, contributes to the sport’s ever-growing popularity. I mean, after all, no one could have predicted Wilson’s career going off the rails as badly as it did.
However, given how many quarterback needy teams there are in the league, I personally find it difficult to believe there won’t be at least one team willing to kick the tires on Wilson. Yes, Wilson is 35 and will turn 36 in November. Hardly a Spring chicken, but not exactly the crypt keeper either, especially for a quarterback who has managed to stay remarkably healthy during his lengthy career.
There’s also the question of his play on the field. No, Wilson is no longer the dynamic game-changer he was in Seattle, but it’s not like he was unplayable for the Broncos last year. Wilson bounced back somewhat, throwing for 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions in 2023. Numbers that aren’t going to blow anyone away, but definitely better than say… Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett or Atlanta Falcons signal caller Desmond Ridder.
Wilson may have salvaged his career in the eyes of some general manager for 2024. Now, it may be he’s on a “prove-it” kind of deal, or seen as a bridge until the next man is able to step up, but the idea of Wilson unemployed entirely does not seem likely at this point.
