The Essex based singer-songwriter will be following last year's act, James Newman, who received zero points from both the public and professional panel for his song Embers.
Radio 1 presenter, Greg James, urged fans to get behind Sam as he "truly believes in him" as he made the announcement this morning.
Scott Mills joined Greg, saying: "We need to get behind our act because everyone else does.
"Stop sneering - even if you don't like it," he went on. "The more we follow this person and we grow them together all of us, like we would England or Scotland or Ireland at the Word Cup, the more we get behind them the more we can impact how well they are known abroad."
Sam told Radio 1 Newsbeat: "I love Eurovision. I think it's such a privilege to be able to do it."
"I don't want to let the stigma or fear of coming at a certain place in a table stop me from doing something and being a part of something that I enjoy so much," he says.
The 2022 Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals take place 10th May with the finals on 14th May.
