Gemma Bird, who is known on social media platform TikTok as Money Mum, has been sharing her top money-saving tips on the app for the past few years to her loyal fanbase of over 67,000 followers.
Money Mum, who has gone on to have a Sunday Times bestseller called Save Yourself Happy, is a regular down the discount aisle in supermarkets and is known for being able to bag a bargain - including yellow-stickered food items.
The personal finance influencer has been sharing more tips than ever recently as UK households struggle due to the cost of living crisis.
But what is a yellow-stickered item and what are Money Mum's best tips for bagging the supermarket bargains?
Here's everything you need to know:
What is a yellow-stickered item?
Yellow-stickered items are usually found in supermarkets as the product is either reaching its use-by date, or the packaging is damaged.
Supermarkets heavily discount these items to entice customers into buying them at a reduced price so they do not go to waste.
The yellow labels can also be found on seasonal items once an event has past, i.e Christmas chocolate after December 25.
There will either be a shelf or an aisle in your local supermarket where you can find the goods, which are often reduced by 75%.
What is the best time to bag a yellow-stickered item?
Money Mum has explained that the best time to get heavily discounted food items in supermarkets is usually in the late evening.
The TikTokker said that the best time to find the discounts in most major supermarkets is "after 8pm as you want to be looking at the end of the day for the best reductions".
Money Mum added that each supermarket has good deals if you go at the right time, with the likes of Tesco, Asda, Lidl, Sainsbury's and other major supermarkets offering heavily discounted items near closing time and on days when they may close early, like Sundays.
The bestselling author also claimed that her best yellow-stickered bargain was multiple bags of stir-fry for only 5p each - proving that supermarkets drastically slash prices at the end of the day.
What is the best way to make use of your yellow-stickered bargains?
As the heavily discounted items are usually approaching their best-before date, it is important to not let them go to waste for the purchase to be cost-effective.
According to Money Mum, the yellow-stickered food could actually make big savings in the long run.
She said: "If you can buy your meals daily from yellow stickers and can be flexible about what meals you have, then you can make big savings - but I appreciate going to the supermarket daily isn't possible for everyone.
"Don't forget so much stuff is freezable too."
By sticking your yellow-labelled finds in the freezer, such as meat or bread, you could save meals for later in the week or month, which could save on your weekly food shop.
