Social media platform TikTok has launched a scheme to tackle the digital skills gap and youth unemployment with a programme to help young people find work in the digital and creative industries. The multi-million pound project, also involving social business charity Catch22, hopes to engage 2,500 people by the end of 2024.
People who are not currently in education, employment and training and who are aged between 16 and 24 are being targeted in the scheme. The could have up to four weeks on an employability course and get a career coach, virtual work experience, mental health support, access to a bursary and mentoring.
Encouraging marginalised and vulnerable people to learn creative skills would be a key part of the programme, TikTok said. They could then use those skills to support local businesses and creative industries.
