Candles are big business in Britain, bringing in nearly £2b in 2019.
The market has only grown since then, with consumers spending £418m just on scented candles from March 2021 to March this year, according to data from market research firm Kantar. That's up 5% from 2020, which itself saw sales 12% higher than the year before, The Guardian reports.
As we head into the festive season, many people will be stocking up on candles to lay out on the dining table for Christmas dinner, or to decorate their homes through the holidays. Many of those candle containers end up on the rubbish heap, but some are too pretty to dump. Despite our best intentions to repurpose the glass containers as cups or dishes, the remaining scraps of unmelted wax end up gathering dust in the corner once the wick has burnt through.
