TikTok featuring The Range’s Fridge Organisers is causing a stir on whether it’s causing contamination and clutter

British homeware retail change The Range is known to sell a range of home, garden and leisure items, for many who find a soothing satisfaction in keeping their surroundings in top shape.

On Instagram, the retailer’s account page posted a TikTok shared originally by user @squeakygemclean, featuring The Range’s very own fridge organisers and storage basket.

Its caption reads: “#FRIDGEorganisation by @squeakygemclean for Get Organised Day

Featuring our Fridge Organisers and My Style Storage Basket for an ever so satisfying fridge restock & #TidyUp. What’s on your to-do list for get organised day?”

Users flooded the comments’ section with their own take of both the video and The Range’s organisers, with either some geared to revamp their fridge and others who had a few concerns on the product.

One user wrote: “This satisfies me way too much”, while a second user added: “fridge goals”.

A third user commented their approval, by writing: “Good idea!”, while another enthusiastically enthused: “This is how you do it- my style.”

Those who did marvel at The Range’s products featured in the video praised the retailers, with certain comments that ranged from ‘satisfying’ to ‘neat’.

One comment, in particular, emphasised the importance of the baskets in their daily organising routine. They wrote: “These baskets make a huge difference.

“My hubby is mostly blind but when I put things in the baskets it helps him locate what he wants and for the completely blind, there is a special pen that can record one word onto stickers and that can be put on the basket.

“So when you use the pen to scan the stickers it will read out what is there! Clever really but this new idea of storage really helps the blind too.”

While there were reviews that seemed to be in agreement with the items, others had plenty to share regarding their opposing views on both the video on display, as well as the products.

One user angrily exclaimed: “People having to go to food banks and you post crap like this all for the sake of aesthetics? Nice to see @therangeuk taking responsibility for its social consciousness.”

The comment garnered 25 likes, with other commenters eager to reply. One responded: “because some people use a food bank it’s not ‘socially conscious’ for people to restock their fridge for their family? This is about a week's worth of food for a family of 4, catch a grip.”

Another similarly stated: “Feeding your own family is nothing to be ashamed of. Just because somebody feeds their own family well doesn’t mean they are trying to brag, or look down on people using food banks. That’s like saying you can’t go to work because some people can’t find jobs. The Range is supporting their baskets, not taking responsibility for social consciousness.”

Meanwhile a third user, who disclosed using food banks, had their own view on the controversy. They wrote: “as someone who has to go to the food bank, thank you for saying this!”

Another concurred by writing: “this was a bad move on @therangeuk. People are living out of food banks and can barely make ends meet. We are regressing and living in poverty. People don't need to see this.”

Others had demonstrated their additional qualms with the use of the fridge organisers, as one user wrote: “Stacking those meals on their side for aesthetics is ridiculous; you could see it all running down.”

A second equally agreed by writing: “I couldn’t have my meat on its side like that all squished to the bottom of the packet” while another added: “Fridge needs the air to circulate too much in there.”

A fourth user specifically criticised the use of the organisers that may contribute to a lack of food hygiene, as they wrote: “Dairy on the same shelf as raw meat.

“big no no all raw meat should be on the bottom shelf. Putting it in little boxes doesn't make any difference either, dairy always above raw meats, and any cooked above dairy, any salad or veg in salad/veg draws.”

A fifth user had also passionately expressed their take by writing:

“Sorry, but a big no for the meat. They should not be stacked on their sides like that. Yes they're in a high sided container but can still leak out all over the place. Rules of the fridge and common sense.

“Also, space must be left for the chilled air to circulate around or the fridge won't be doing its job of keeping things suitably cold.

“Sorry for the lecture but I spent many years doing refresher courses on Food Handling to not know these guidelines.”
