TikTok beauty fans question new hair trend involving raw eggs

We all like to find new trends that can give us shinier hair or clearer skin and for many beauty fans TikTok has become the place to do that. But when a ‘trend’ involves putting fizzy drinks and even raw eggs in your hair, people start to question the legitimacy and reasons behind them.

One video that has received over 100 million views and three-million likes, shows a man, who appears to be a hairdresser, using everyday food items to wash a client's hair. Captioned as a ‘hair tutorial’ the guy uses lemon juice, raw eggs, an apple and what appears to be lemonade to wash a someone's hair.

In this video it seems like the hairdresser is just messing around and having a joke, and many viewers took it that way. With nearly 36,000 comments on the video, most of which were just laughing face emojis, it did however seem to really catch a few viewers off guard.

A few comments expressed how they would rather stick with their normal shampoo. One commenter said: “I’ll stick to my Head and Shoulders anti-dandruff,” while a second said: “So the new anti-dandruff shampoo is just whatever happens to be left in the fridge?”

Another viewer commented: “Are you washing the hair or cooking?”

It did appear as if the ingredients used to clean the client’s hair just came from the fridge that morning, with the apple not looking too ripe. People also questioned what the smell would be like in the comments, a fair point but you would expect it would be strongly smelling of lemon.

Most viewers did seem to be seeing the light-hearted side of the video but a few shared their thoughts on how this method wouldn’t work, one said: “How to damage your hair,” while another said: “Tutorial on how to go bald.”
