Tigers Combine to Throw No-Hitter vs. Blue Jays

Tigers pitchers Matt Manning, Jason Foley and Alex Lange combined to no-hit the Blue Jays in a 2–0 win at Comerica Park on Saturday afternoon.

Manning got the start just a few weeks after returning from the injured list with a broken foot. The 25-year-old came into the game with a 4.84 ERA but threw 6 2/3 no-hit innings on 91 pitches. After Manning walked Cavan Biggio in the seventh, manager A.J. Hinch chose to pull him with the tying run coming to the plate.

From there, Foley and Lange did the rest in relief, each retiring every batter they faced. While Foley faced the bottom of the order, Lange had to deal with Bo Bichette, Brandon Belt and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the ninth, and he retired all three on just 10 total pitches.

The no-hitter is Detroit’s first ever combined no-hitter and first of any kind since Justin Verlander also no-hit the Blue Jays in 2011. Verlander also had the previous no-hitter in Comerica Park back in 2007.
