Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL), a new indoor golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is set to launch in January 2025. The league counts the PGA Tour and SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI) as partners to present what they call “golf remixed” and “a fusion of sports, tech, entertainment, media, fan experience and interaction.”
The Details: TGL's first season will kick off on Jan. 7, 2025, from the purpose-built SoFi Center venue in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Six teams of four PGA players representing different cities will compete in a 15-match regular season airing live on ESPN and ESPN+.
TGL matches will feature large simulator screens and interactive elements that blend traditional golf with modern technologies including a 64-foot-by-53-foot simulator powered by Full Swing. Players will hit from areas with real grass, fairway, rough and sand into the screen for tee shots and approach shots and transition to a real green for shots of approximately 50 yards or less.
Each match is expected to last about two hours and will include elements like a shot clock and timeouts, offering a fast-paced experience for fans.
Several PGA Tour players from TGL's New York Gold Cub team joined The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week to talk about the new league.
"TGL is the next evolution within professional golf, and I am committed to helping lead it into the future. Embracing technology to create this unique environment gives us the ability to move our sport into primetime on a consistent basis alongside so many of sports' biggest events," Woods said.
SoFi Tees Up: SoFi Technologies is the presenting sponsor of the TGL golf league. The company's involvement also includes the naming rights to the SoFi Center, TGL's 250,000-square-foot dedicated venue, as well as the naming of the league's championship trophy, the SoFi Cup.
SoFi is also the naming rights partner of SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL.
"To achieve our goal of becoming a top 10 financial institution, it's critical that we build brand awareness and trust with consumers to become a household name. Investing in sports has proven unequivocally valuable time and time again in helping us unlock this goal," SoFi CEO Anthony Noto said.
"From our very first conversation, there's been a natural alignment between TGL's tech-forward approach with SoFi's approach as an unconventional financial services solution. We're thrilled to be partnering to bring SoFi Center and TGL to life," Noto added.
