Tiger Woods has revealed his intention to take part in a warm-up event ahead of The Open Championship this summer.
The golf icon plans on making his presence felt at the 150th edition of The Open in July, set to take place at the historic St Andrews. It follows on from his return to action at the Masters after 14 months away following his car crash last February.
Woods spent 12 weeks in a hospital bed and then several more months rehabilitating his legs, after initial fears that the damage was so severe that he might never walk again. Little more than a year later, he was strolling the fairways at Augusta and completed all four rounds in front of an adoring crowd.
He hopes to do the same in Scotland in July, and to prepare he has already planned in his next tournament appearance. The American plans to head to Ireland at the start of that month to take part in the JP McManus Pro-Am in Limerick.
Hosted by the Irish businessman and racehorse owner, the event will take place at Adare Manor between July 4-5. He will be joined by some of the sport's other big names, including British favourite Rory McIlroy and recently ousted former world number one Jon Rahm.
"Tiger's presence at Adare Manor will undoubtedly bring huge excitement to the thousands of spectators," said McManus. "We are very grateful to him for giving up his free time to be with us."
Woods impressed with a brilliant first round at Augusta, before recovering from a shaky start to his second to comfortably make the cut. He slipped to finish 47th overall after playing through the pain for the final two days, but just getting through the 72 holes was a major achievement in itself.
After finishing his final round, he seemed uncertain about the PGA Championship in May but confirmed his plans to play at The Open. "I don't know if I'll play Southern Hills [venue of the PGA] or not but I am looking forward to St Andrews," he said.
"That's something that is near and dear to my heart and I've won two Opens there. It is the home of golf and my favourite golf course in the world so I will be there for that one."
