Scotland set for 10-day blast of wind and rain as drivers warned of 'challenging' weather
Scots are being warned to expect further blasts of winds and downpours over the next week as the Met Office predicts a 10-day spell of wild weather.
Forecasters say the autumnal mix of wind and rain will 'dominate' the weather over the coming days. It comes as bands of heavy rain and accompanying blustery winds are set to move in from the northwest.
Road users across the UK have been warned to take care amid the strong winds and heavy rain. Motorists have been urged to plan ahead, check their cars before heading out, and to take extra care 'at all times'.
Lewis Capaldi forced to move into Glasgow flat because £1.6M farmhouse is a 'hell hole'
Lewis Capaldi had told a US radio station that the Scots farmhouse he bought for £1.6 million on the advice of Ed Sheeran is a "hell hole".
The West Lothian singer snapped up the gaff after pal Ed found it on the internet for him. But Lewis says the place on the outskirts of Glasgow stinks of "fags and dog".
The Someone You Loved singer also hated the decor and quickly decided to move to a flat in Glasgow. Capaldi, 26, originally from Whitburn, is now having the property renovated before moving back in.
Scots mum sent threatening messages to ex after discovering new girlfriend on TikTok live
A Scots mum sent threats to her former partner after learning through a TikTok live broadcast that he’d found a new girlfriend. Jemma Moss was upset to discover her ex Shaun Fraser was seeing another woman just weeks after they split up, a court heard.
The 25-year-old sent Shaun messages over social media and prompted a relative to send him a threat about damaging his car. Moss appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday and admitted sending the repeated messages, causing Shaun fear or alarm.
Fiscal depute Claire Green said Moss and Shaun had been together since January 2016 before breaking up after six years. Ms Green said Moss learned her ex was in an another relationship through a live broadcast put on social media platform TikTok.
Homes face three-hour power cuts over winter as National Grid plans UK blackouts
Planned blackouts could hit UK homes this winter for the first time since the 1980s, the National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) has warned.
Households all over the country are being urged to "save money and back Britain" by using more energy during off-peak times rather than when it's busiest.
The news comes amid fears that power plants may not receive enough gas to keep running forcing the grid to be at risk of collapse.
People on PIP or DLA moving to new disability payments may see other benefits stop
Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment are new health benefits which are replacing Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Disability Living Allowance for Children (DLA for Child) for people living in Scotland. The devolved benefits will provide financial support for young children and those between 16 and State Pension age, who are disabled, have a long-term health condition or have a terminal illness.
People already receiving PIP and DLA for Child from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) do not need to apply for Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment as the migration will be automatic. Case transfers from DWP to the Social Security Scotland IT system are being carried out in stages with PIP transfers expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
It will take approximately three months to transfer someone’s award to the devolved welfare system and Social Security Scotland said it will write to people to inform them when to expect their first Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment along with other important information including how to ensure they continue to receive any other benefits from DWP or HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
