Airdrie striker Calum Gallagher joked that he’ll never leave the six-yard box if he is promised tap-ins like his double against Falkirk.
But he says their thumping 4-0 win puts down a marker in the League One title race.
Gallagher got his first two goals for the season, and admits they came more easily than usual, pouncing on the rebound after PJ Morrison had parried Lewis Jamieson’s drive, and tapping in after the Bairns failed to clear a corner.
It was no more than the Diamonds striker deserved, having struck the outside of the right post in the moments leading up to his second goal.
He said: “If you gave me 15 to 20 like that a season I wouldn’t take anything outside the six-yard box again!
“They all count, they all count towards winning games, and that’s the most important thing.
“I got the goals at exactly the right times and it's nice to get off the mark early. I missed a sitter last week, so it puts me on two in two at the start of the season, which is a nice place to be.
“I thought Falkirk possibly started the stronger, had good periods of possession and looked dangerous going forward, but it was just a case of applying our own style onto the game.
“Once we broke that 10-minute spell we grew into the game and it probably wasn’t an unfair reflection, it wasn’t against the run of play, when I got the goal.
“It was just quite an open game at that point, but that puts them on the back-foot, you know they’ve got to come on to us, and I think that’s when we’re at our best.
“If we can relax on the ball and let the midfielders go and play and dictate, that allows us to start playing some free-flowing football.”
Gallagher reckons Airdrie are starting to hit their stride, with back-to-back wins in League One, and it can only get better.
He said: “I think over the last few weeks we’re just working towards a goal, and it’s everybody pulling in the right direction.
“It’s early doors, we’ve not been at our best, but if we can just keep ticking the clock up on how long we have these comfortable spells in games, where we’re playing at our best, that can only stand us in good stead.
"But Falkirk are going to be up there challenging, so it's nice to set a benchmark down for the rest of the season and to have a five-point cushion is a nice place to be."
Airdrie head for Palmerston Park on Saturday for a clash against a Queen of the South side that dropped down from the Championship, and thumped the Diamonds 4-1 in last season's Premier Sports Cup.
Gallagher said: "We're not going there looking to right a wrong, it's more that we want to see where we all are, to feel each other out.
"We go down there with a lot of confidence, looking to play football the right way, so hopefully it will be a good game to watch and we’d like to have another three points at this point next week."
