A children's climbing frame in a popular Cardiff park was set on fire in the middle of the night, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. The frame in Heath Park was left blackened after being targeted by vandals in the early hours of Wednesday, April 27.
It is estimated that the damage will cost between £8,000 and £10,000 to repair. The incident has been condemned by local councillors, who described it as "absolutely appalling" and the work of "thugs".
Police are now appealing for information as they try to identify who is responsible. They believe that the incident may have happened between midnight and 1.45am on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Officers in Cardiff are appealing for information after extensive damage was caused to the large wooden climbing frame in the children’s play area of Heath Park. The incident may have happened between midnight and 1.45am on Wednesday, 27th April. It is believed that the damage to the frame could cost up to £8,000-£10,000 to repair.
Sharing photos of the frame on fire, Heath and Birchgrove Lib Dems tweeted: "Absolutely appalling that some thugs have set the children's play area on fire at Heath Park. The structure is now unsafe and will have to be cordoned off."
