Thug admits to Rutherglen murder bid after lover row

A thug carried out a brutal murder bid on his partner's ex-lover after a row.

Shaun Myers, 30, turned on the man at the victim's flat in Rutherglen on January 9, 2021.

The 30-year-old stamped on him so badly, he was left with Myers's footprint on his face.

The victim ended up in hospital for two months and remains affected by his ordeal.

Myers pled guilty to an attempted murder charge as he appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.

The dad, of the city's Knightswood, was remanded in custody pending sentencing in August.

Prosecutor Isabella Ennis said the victim had initially been at his home with a male friend.

Myers - who had moved back in with his mother next door - then turned up drunk.

Miss Ennis said an argument broke out between Myers and his victim's friend regarding an incident involving his partner.

.This was said to have happened in the victim's home when he and the woman were dating.

The man's friend eventually left with the homeowner uninjured at that time.

But, Myers went on to repeatedly stamp and also kick the victim following a loud row which other neighbours heard.

One then discovered the unconscious man lying on the landing outside the flat.

Miss Ennis added: "Police arrived and found [the victim]. They noted no sign of a pulse or breath.

"He was taken into the living room for CPR."

The man had "significant" swelling to his face and back of his head.

The prosecutor continued: "He also had indentations of a boot. This boot print later matched that of Myers."

A CT scan in hospital showed a "considerable" number of injuries including to the head, multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung.

He was only fit to leave hospital on March 9 2021 and also needed rehabilitation.

Miss Ennis added: "The injuries were life threatening requiring physiotherapy as well as occupational and speech therapy."

The court heard he can now live independently, but still has issues from what happened.

Myers had been on bail, but judge Lady Stacey remanded him in custody.

She told him: "This is a very serious charge where a lot of injuries were caused. A custodial sentence is the only one that I can pass."

The case was adjourned for reports. Myers blew a kiss to relatives as he was lead handcuffed to the cells.
