A golf club in Cornwall has been put up for sale for more than £2m, as its owner moves towards retirement.
Falmouth Golf Club, which overlooks Falmouth Bay in the south of the county, provides a golf course, new clubhouse with restaurant and function room across its 94 acres.
The site, which is on the market for £2.75m, also includes a professional shop, greenkeeper's shed, main car park, overflow car park, putting green, and short game practice area.
The facility, which can be used as a wedding venue, reported a turnover approaching £1m for the last financial year with circa 49% growth.
Paul Collins of Miller Commercial who is handling the sale said: “This is a superb opportunity to acquire one of Cornwall's most popular golf courses and hospitality venues set in an elevated position overlooking Falmouth Bay. The club has undergone numerous improvements in recent years and most notably in 2021 saw the opening of its stunning new clubhouse and restaurant which has been designed to accommodate not only the membership but also a bar, restaurant, functions and events business, with the club being licensed for weddings.
"The club has been owned by our client since 2004 and is now being offered for sale as a going concern, as he moves towards retirement.”
The golf club was last sold in 2004 when it had a guide price of £1.5m and was bought by David Hughes, who grew up in the West Country.
Since moving into the new clubhouse in November 2021, the business has enjoyed consistent growth in revenue with the accounts for the year ending August 2022 showing a turnover of over £967,000 and sales of the first half of this trading year (September 2022 to February 2023) up £185,000 (49%) on the same period last year.
Falmouth Golf Club was formed in 1894 and is affiliated to both the England and Cornwall Golf Unions and has a golfing membership across all categories of circa 600, with a further 150 social members.
