Thrillseekers helped off UK’s highest rollercoaster after high winds stop ride

Thrillseekers on the country’s highest rollercoaster had to be led down its tracks to safety after sudden high winds forced its closure.

Staff at Blackpool Pleasure Beach helped the passengers off the 235-feet-high attraction after what was described as “sudden changes in weather conditions”.

A spokesperson for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “At 2.50pm on Tuesday 11th April, Blackpool Pleasure Beach stopped the Big One train on the ride’s lift hill due to sudden changes in weather conditions.

“Guests on the ride were reassured and escorted from the ride by Blackpool Pleasure Beach staff.   Due to high gusts of wind the Big One rollercoaster closed for the remainder of the day.”

The ride was built in 1994 and whisks passengers at speeds of up to 85 mph along its 5,497 foot-long track in around three minutes.

In 2021, staff had to escort about 30 passengers down the track when Grand National ride in Blackpool broke down while approaching its peak height.
