A thrifty traveller is planning an epic 8,600-mile journey to Singapore - by bus.
Self-confessed bus-a-holic Andrew Cowell, 47, saves money by using buses instead of planes or trains.
He recently travelled almost 1,500 miles to Poland for less than £85 - by taking nine buses.
And now Andrew has set his sights on Singapore - the longest trip you can make on land.
“The furthest you can go by driving in Singapore, so I’m going to look into the practicalities of doing that.”
For his Polish trip, Andrew set off from his home at 7am last Wednesday and arrived in Krakow 61 hours later on Friday evening.
He began his journey travelling 130 miles to London using seven different buses costing him a total of £14.
The railway worker then boarded the 8am Flixbus coach to Krakow which cost him just £69.
He even had the chance to enjoy a dinner on the Seine in Paris while he waited to change buses.
Andrew said: “For most people travelling by coach so far would be impractical.
“Flying is efficient but it's too clinical for me. When you fly you just arrive at your destination rather than travel there.
“By getting buses I feel like I've travelled and I get to see places when I'm travelling.
“I got to stop off in Paris. I got to see the white cliffs of Dover and the beautiful French countryside along the way as well.”
Andrew has previously used buses to travel to his holiday destinations in the UK.
In February he paid £10 to travel 137 miles to Whitby, North Yorks, and two months later he went to Cornwall for a tenner.
He takes advantage of the Government's £2 fare cap on bus fares in England to make his journeys as cheap as possible.
Although he “really enjoyed” his bus journey, Andrew is paying £102 for his return flight back to Manchester on Friday.
He said: “This has been my best bus journey yet. Everything surprisingly ran on time or even got to destinations early.
“I met some nice people along the way as well although I do think I was the only person going all the way to Krakow.”
