Three suspects arrested after gun fired twice at house

Three suspects were arrested after shots were fired at a home.

Merseyside Police were called to a house on Wyresdale Road in Aintree on Saturday, April 22, following reports of shots being fired. Once officers arrived they found the front window of a home had been shot at twice with what officers believe was a shotgun.

There were people inside the property at the time, but there were no reported injuries. Police today said a 21-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, as well as assault and harassment.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Both men were given conditional bail pending further enquiries. A third man, aged 19, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and he remains in police custody.

The arrests were made following warrants carried out by officers in Kirkby yesterday as part of Operation Athena. Police say this ongoing investigation is aimed at disrupting organised crime across Knowsley and reassuring communities.

During these warrants, officers said they also seized three suspected stolen electric bikes, large quantities of cannabis and a hunting-style knife.

At the time of the incident Detective Inspector Peter McCullough said: “While no injuries have been reported, discharging a firearm is extremely reckless and dangerous. We have a zero-tolerance approach to any person involved in the use of, possession of, and storage of firearms, and we will relentlessly pursue anyone involved in this type of awful criminality.

“We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will take action.

“We pro-actively investigate serious organised crime in Merseyside, including the use of guns and the supply and distribution of drugs.

“We will always take immediate action to incidents involving guns and we are actively working to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work. Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets.

“This incident took place in a residential area so there are likely to be people who may have CCTV or smart doorbell footage that could have captured something to help our investigation.

“I urge those who live in the area to check your CCTV or dashcam for footage taken from this night to help us find those responsible.”

A spokesperson from the force said: "Although we have made these arrests, we are still appealing for information about this incident on Wyresdale Road, in Aintree. If you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage or information, please DM our social media desk on Twitter @MerseyPolice or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ quoting incident reference 23000337602. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers UK anonymously on 0800 555 111."
