Three steps to Kate Middleton's 'youthful glow' - foundation hack and bushy brows

The Princess of Wales stepped out in Scarborough this week, joining her husband Prince William for a royal walkabout - and she looked as flawless as ever. Kate sported a sophisticated camel ensemble with a knitted midi dress and a Max Mara overcoat, paired with tan leather boots.

But just like her outfits, her make-up and wavy locks also looked pristine. An expert make-up artist says the 40-year-old maintains an effortless 'youthful glow' by following three simple steps.

"Kate's make-up is classic and timeless. Rather than following extravagant trends, Kate follows clear rules that compliment her oval face shape and skin texture," MUA Saffron Hughes says.

"Make-up trends can come and go throughout time and adding unnecessary make-up can alter the appearance of age.

"Kate knows the best placement for her face shape and by doing so, it doesn't matter her age, she will always be looking at least 10 years younger!"

The royal couple visited the Yorkshire seaside town to launch funding to support young people's mental health.

They were greeted by a cheering crowd as they started their day at The Street – a community hub that supports local organisations to grow and develop their services.

After analysing her latest public appearance and previous looks, Saffron Hughes, who is the resident make-up artist at FalseEyelashes.co.uk, has outlined the three key tricks for how Kate achieves a glowing youthful look:

Kate's cream products

MUA Saffron argues the biggest contributor to Kate's youthful look is her 'dewy skin' (PA)

"One of the biggest contributors to Kate's youthful appearance is her dewy, glowing skin," says Saffron.

"Heavy powder can settle into fine lines on the face and exaggerate the appearance of wrinkles, so Kate opts for sheer, glowing foundation or tinted moisturiser as an alternative.

"This rule also applies to other face products, too. Kate's often seen sporting a soft pink on her cheeks that compliments her cool-toned skin, which I suspect is a cream formula. Cream alternatives to bronzing powders and blushes give that glowing-from-within appearance and can highlight all the high points of your face, giving the illusion of higher cheekbones and giving it a youthful lift."

She adds: "We've seen such a difference in Kate's make-up in the last five years, especially since 2013. By saying bye to the matte foundation and powders, Kate has shed at least 10 years."

Kate's thicker brows shave years off her appearance

The MUA believes Kate has her eyebrows laminated for a fuller look (PA)

"Kate's thick eyebrows carefully plucked to frame her face do a great job of giving her a more youthful appearance," Saffron explains.

"As we age, brows tend to get more sparse and naturally thin, so filling brows with a fine pencil can contribute to a more youthful appearance.

"Kate's eyebrows embrace their natural arch and are very uniform so it's likely they're either laminated or set with a gel."

Kate's clever eyeshadow placement

"Once upon a time, Kate opted for thick eyeliner on top and bottom lids. Unfortunately, as we age, this can give us the illusion of smaller eyes," Saffron begins.

"To open the eyes, Kate uses soft brown eyeshadow on the outer third of her lower lash line to softly define the eyes. Opting for eyeliner on the outer third of the lash line gives a wide-awake appearance and makes us look more alert.

"Her top lids are often adorned with a natural brown and accompanied with a thicker, more pronounced black gel eyeliner."
