Going out for brunch or Sunday lunch on a lazy weekend (or post night out) is sometimes just what you need. We are well aware - and proud of the fact - that Wales has a fantastic selection of restaurants at which you can indulge in this delicious treat.
And it just so happens that three restaurants dotted around the country have been named in the UK's top 100 eateries who have the 'most beloved brunches and Sunday lunches in 2023' - according to research done by restaurant reservation service OpenTable.
Bryn Williams at Porth Eirias in Colwyn Bay, The Rock and Fountain Inn in Newport and Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen in Cowbridge have made the cut after OpenTable compiled over one million diner reviews. As stated by Open Table, the shortlist is determined by overall diner rating - on reviews, user klout, total number of reviews, and regional overall rating.
Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the number of reviews, for which ‘good for brunch’ was selected as a special feature.

Bryn Williams is a Welsh chef from Denbigh who also heads up Michelin guide restaurant Odette's in London. With a high standard of cooking, whose produce mostly (where he can) comes from Wales - and is sometimes even products grown by Bryn himself - Bryn's restaurant in Wales - which was listed as one of our top 50 restaurants in Wales right now - not only boasts a stellar menu but incredible views of the sea. Read our review of it from a few years back here.
One reviewer on Open Table wrote: "Took a friend to lunch. She had not been before and was blown away. It was lovely to see her so happy and having fun. The food was exceptional with each course.... 1. Salt and pepper squid 2. Smoked haddock, crushed potatoes and poached egg 3. Creme Caramel Wine : Chardonnay ....absolutely delicious. Love this restaurant and both us will go again. Thanks to the lovely staff who took care of us so professionally, friendly and helpful."
Another, who had enjoyed a spot of brunch here said: "Lovely and peaceful, view is stunning on a sunny morning, friendly service, hard working kitchen, delicious poached egg on avocado toast!"
Newport's The Rock and Fountain Inn describes itself as the "home of the Sunday Roast" and so it's no surprise it has been included in this 100 strong list. Served in the establishment's 16th century restaurant, you'll get class food in a beautiful and historic setting.
During the summer they also have a heated garden marquee to soak up golden hour in which you can marvel at views of Penhow Castle.
As stated by one Open Table reviewer, it's Sunday lunch is: "Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful roast dinner, best I’ve had, also one of the best cheesecakes I’ve had the biscoff one. Brilliant service not a long wait for food, all staff friendly and polite."
It's loved for its fresh brunches, flavourful lunches - all made with seasonal and local ingredients - cakes, local farm shop and various family-friendly events in a countryside setting, so it's no wonder Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen in Cowbridge has made this list. It's so popular you may need to book in beforehand to secure your spot - but the wait it well worth it. One reviewer wrote: "Lovely relaxed Brunch with friends" while its Sunday roast was deemed the "Best Sunday lunch out ever!"
We've tried and tested this Sunday lunch ourselves and can back that opinion - read our full review of it here.
