Three officers injured in crash during east London police chase

The Metropolitan Police is appealing for witnesses after three of its officers were injured in a crash in east London.

On February 13, at around 4:40 p.m., officers in a police car were pursuing a vehicle, a grey Vauxhall Astra, after it failed to stop and began driving erratically.

The car crashed into other vehicles during the pursuit before colliding with a police car on Mungo Park Road in Rainham, just over two miles from Dagenham.

Other officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service.

Two male officers for the Roads and Transport Policing Command, and one female officer, with the North Area Command Unit, were injured in the crash.

Paramedics at the scene assessed their injuries as not to be life-changing or life-threatening.

The driver did not stop. The Vauxhall Astra was later found abandoned in the Rainham area, a short while later.

An investigation has been launched by detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, and enquiries are ongoing.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

Police are appealing for anyone with information that may assist in their investigation to get in touch.

Acting Detective Sergeant Michael Carroll, leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation is continuing, and we are now appealing for witnesses and those with any relevant information to come forward and help us establish the circumstances of what happened.

“We are particularly interested in any dashcam or local premises’ CCTV footage of the incident.”

Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD5514/13FEB26.

An anonymous report can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 55 111.
