Three children in Humboldt County, California, have been treated for rabies exposure after two separate encounters with bats over roughly two weeks, and both bats later tested positive for the virus, the county's Department of Health and Human Services said.
One encounter happened in Manila and the other in the Sunset Avenue neighborhood of Arcata. County officials are using the cases to remind residents not to handle bats at all, whether the animal appears sick, injured, or dead.
