Three North East hotels named among the Times Top 100 places to stay in 2023

Three North East hotels have been named among the top 100 places to stay in the North East in 2023.

Seaham Hall Hotel in County Durham took the title of North of England hotel of the year in the Times' annual list. Beadnell Towers and the Whittling House on the Northumberland coast, in Beadnell and Alnmouth respectively, were also named on the list.

It has been a hugely successful year for the winners, Seaham Hall Hotel, which also took the crown for best small hotel in England at the VisitEngland awards, after scooping the same prize at the North East Tourism Awards in March. It has a further three nominations for the upcoming 2023 contest, while its Serenity Spa was named the best in Western Europe at the World Spa & Wellness Awards.

Ross Grieve, managing director of Seaham Hall, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be awarded “Best Regional Winner” in The Sunday Times, 100 Best Places to Stay 2023, North category. This is testament to the hard work and investment that has gone into Seaham Hall.

"It’s been an extremely challenging time over the last couple of years, during the turbulent Covid period, but with hard work and resilience from the team, plus innovative additions, we’ve fought back! We’re enthused for 2023, we have some exciting plans in the pipeline and will be building on Seaham Hall’s continued success!”

For Beadnell Towers, it's a huge turnaround in fortunes after there were fears that the hotel may fold as recently as June this year after a planning application was rejected for a converted shipping container that had been installed during the Covid pandemic. Located in the Northumberland coast village that was named among the best places to visit and move to in 2022, Beadnell Towers was listed as making up for boutique pads that the Northumberland coast apparently once lacked.

The hotel's management shared the "exciting" news on its Facebook page, saying: "We’ve got some exciting news to share!

"We've been listed as one of The Times and The Sunday Times Best Places to Stay 2023. This list recognises the top places across Britain for visitors to stay, eat and drink, along with a host of other things!"

The other Northumberland hotel to make the list, The Whittling House in Alnmouth, also shared its delight at being listed in a post on its Facebook. Their post read: "We were delighted to welcome The Times and The Sunday Times to visit and review The Whittling House at the end of the summer this year.

"The article shines the light on the beautiful little town of Alnmouth and we particularly like the comment of 'This pad has brought the pizzazz Alnmouth has been missing.' Thank you for visiting us!"
