Three NI spots ranked in list of most popular restaurants according to TikTok

Three popular Belfast spots have been ranked among the most popular restaurants across the Ireland of Ireland, according to TikTok.

With TikTok now overtaking Google for search queries among Gen Z, people everywhere are now flocking to the app to check out everything from beauty products to bars and restaurants all the way down to holiday destinations before deciding to make a purchase.

New research by Influencer marketing agency Ubiquitous has revealed the top bars and restaurants around the globe according to TikTok users, with a number of NI hotspots making the cut.

In their list of the Most Popular Bars & Restaurants of 2022 across Ireland and Northern Ireland, The Bowery, House and 3 Levels have all been making an impact on 'For You' pages across the world.

The Bowery, a 'neighbourhood pub' on the Lisburn Road, was the most popular NI restaurant, coming in at number 14 on the list. It was followed by Botanic bottomless brunch haven House at 20 and 3 Levels, Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant, at number 23.

The research also revealed that the favourite type of restaurant was fine dining with 22 per cent of videos falling under this category, followed by Italian at 14 per cent.

To gather the data, Ubiquitous analysed hundreds of the most popular videos on the app under restaurant-specific hashtags to compile a list of commonly suggested locations at the top of the application’s algorithm, then cross-referenced the list by searching the locations on TikTok to calculate their virality level on the platform. Ubiquitous also took into account the opinion of its team of social media experts to help calculate the ‘virality factor’ of these hot spots.

Jeremy Boudinet, Sr. Director of Growth from Ubiquitous said: “The increase in Gen Z searching for items and places on TikTok before making a purchase makes perfect sense, as these younger consumers have been trained in a visual-first mode of engaging with consumption. They want to be able to visualize what they’re getting in a realistic way—and that means seeing it from people like themselves.

Boudinet added: “Food is one of the highest searched for items on TikTok with over 422.2million hashtags, meaning it’s no surprise that restaurants and bars are starting to design their venues with ‘TikTok-ability’ and ‘trend factor’ in mind.”
