Three more held in drug peddling case in Kannur

The Kannur police investigating a drug peddling case have arrested three more persons, including a Nigerian woman from Bengaluru.

The team led by Kannur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) P.P. Sadanandan arrested 22-year-old Praisegod Ottonio, a native of Abuja in Nigeria. She was arrested from Banaswadi in Bengaluru on Friday evening.

Another team led by Narcotics Cell ACP Justin Abraham arrested Janis, 39, of Marakkarkandy, and Mohammed Jabir, 32, of Andathode in Kannur from Marakkarkandy. The police have so far arrested nine persons, including one Nizam who is believed to have supplied drugs in north Malabar, in connection with the drug haul on March 7. They had seized brown sugar, opium and 2 kilograms of MDMA, a psychoactive drug from two persons who attempted to smuggle them in a private bus.

Following the seizure, District Police Chief (Kannur City) R. Ilango had constituted a special investigation team to track those involved in drug peddling in Kannur and neighbouring districts.
