Three months of daytime road works on A77 to start next week

Daytime road works on a major Ayrshire road will see three months of work commence from Monday.

Overnight works on the A77 between Bogend Toll and Symington junctions has been ongoing since last month to improve active cycle lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.

Now works will switch to daytime working from Monday, December 5 and will take place using daytime lane closures, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, each day until March 2023.

Some weekend working may also be required during this period. The road will operate as normal out with these times.

The work, carried out by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be carried out using nearside lane closures of the A77 northbound carriageway between the Bogend Toll and Symington junctions.

Construction will stop over the Christmas and New Year holiday period for two weeks, during which time the site will be made safe and access maintained for all users.

The scheme is said to benefit pedestrians and cyclists who currently use this section of the local cycle network each day, by widening the existing shared footway to better align with Transport Scotland’s Cycling by Design guidance.

It is hoped more users will also be encouraged to walk, cycle and wheel for health, leisure and commuting purposes.

Pedestrian and cyclist access to the shared footway will be maintained throughout the works, with these road users being escorted through the works whenever any footway closures are required.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
