Three MLS clubs Cristiano Ronaldo could join after attack on Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world yesterday with a series of startling revelations about Manchester United on a with Piers Morgan. The Portuguese superstar launched stinging attacks on Erik ten Hag and the setup of the football club, prompting the serious possibility of a January move away from Old Trafford.

The 37-year-old was angling for a new club in the summer but there were no serious suitors across the European leagues.

This has opened up the very real possibility of Ronaldo moving to Major League Soccer in the United States, a transfer that could be represent the biggest in the history of the league, but who could be willing to take him in?

Inter Miami

Former United legend David Beckham created Inter Miami in 2018 and the club began playing in the MLS in 2020. With Phil Neville in place as their head coach, there is a real feel of Old Trafford nostalgia on the other side of the globe. Whether that would be a good thing or not remains to be seen!

The Herons brought Gonzalo Higuain to Miami in 2020 and the Argentine forward became the highest scorer in the club's history, bagging 29 goals and 14 assists in his time there. The 34-year-old recently announced his retirement from football.

Given the building blocks that are already in place, this potential move looks like it could have legs. Beckham's influence could well be a deciding factor if there remains little interest from European rivals.

Ronaldo's arrival would certainly help to fill the Higuain void. He would play at the Dignity Health Sports Park in front of a up to 27,000 spectators.

LA Galaxy

Galaxy became one of the most recognisable MLS clubs on a global scale when Beckham joined them in 2007. Few have done more for the growth of soccer in America than Beckham, as the game really started to take-off following his arrival in the United States.

The Los Angeles based outfit play at the Dignity Health Sports Park with a capacity of 27,000. Again, Ronaldo could link up with another ex-United star in the form of Javier Hernandez. The former Bayern Munich star Douglas Costa is also strutting his stuff on the wing for Galaxy.

One of the main attractions for superstars is undoubtedly the location of Los Angeles. It is a place that is rolling in superstars and celebrities from far and wide. Even someone of Ronaldo's stature may start to feel a little more ordinary in a city with icons around every corner.

LAFC

Another team battling it out in the celebrity metropolis of Los Angeles, LAFC were founded in 2014 and have recently been recruiting a series of big names from the footballing world. Italian stalwart Giorgio Chiellini and Welsh wizard Gareth Bale have both put pen to paper on contracts with the club.

Designated player (DP) rules, also known as the Beckham rule, prohibit clubs in the MLS from signing more than three players outside of their salary cap. This could cause a problem for the club, who have already registered Dennis Bouanga and Carlos Vela under this ruling, with Bale set to complete the three. Amazingly, neither Bale or Chiellini are currently breaking DP rules.

Seeing Ronaldo and Bale joining forces in an MLS attack would set the nostalgia button on overdrive! However, it seems a less likely destination than other potential suitors in the division. With just 22,000 seats, the Banc of Calafornia Stadium could well need a capacity increase if they were able to land the Portuguese legend!
