Three memorable Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest clashes ahead of weekend bout

Leeds United will prepare to travel to City Ground this weekend as they face Nottingham Forest in the first meeting between the two clubs in just under three years.

It was an easy trip to Wham Stadium last weekend for Leeds as they eased past League One opponents Accrington Stanley in the F.A Cup fourth round while Steve Cooper's side come into this game with back-to-back heavy losses against Manchester Untied in their Carabao Cup semi-final legs.

Here are three of the most memorable wins for the Whites over Forest for a bit of pre-match inspiration for Jesse Marsch's men...

Nottingham Forest 0-4 Leeds United - November 29, 2011

The day after the death of club legend Gary Speed, Simon Grayson's Leeds paid the best tribute possible to the former Whites midfielder by thrashing Forest 4-0 at City Ground.

It was Robert Snodgrass that scored the first for Leeds by firing home 20 minutes into the match before Johnny Howson volleyed in an unbelievable effort over the head of Lee Camp into the back of the net from 25 yards.

Michael Brown's cross met the head of Luciano Becchio which glanced it into the far corner in the second half to make it 3-0 and Adam Clayton's scrappy finish sealed all three points for the visitors.

Leeds United 4-1 Nottingham Forest - April 2, 2011

It was a poor start for Forest when they travelled to Elland Road in April the same year as Chris Cohen was sent off early in the first half but it'd be four second half goals that gave the Whites the win.

Johnny Howson would claim the first from close range after latching onto Eric Lichaj's cross as he poked the ball home past Lee Camp before Luciano Becchio nodded in a second seven minutes later.

Gareth McCleary would find a nice curling effort to make it 2-1 but a Max Gradel brace within the last 15 minutes of the match would put the game to bed.

His first was a great volley from the edge of the box before his second came from six yards out after a Camp double save fell to him in the penalty area.

Leeds United 6-1 Nottingham Forest - March 27, 1972

At the time of this clash, Leeds United were chasing the First Division leaders Derby County and Nottingham Forest were rock-bottom, meaning the one-sidedness of this result came as a surprise to no one.

It was the combination of Eddie Gray and Mick Jones that first unlocked Forest's defence after 15 minutes, as their footwork eventually found forward Peter Lorimer who fired home his first of the day.

An equaliser would come on the stroke of halftime from Forest midfielder Pete Cormack but that didn't phase the Whites in the slightest as just 10 minutes after the break, Gray found their second.

A nice strike came after Forest goalkeeper Jim Barron had to be temporarily subbed off for a split lip which saw blood pouring out of his mouth - but in those four minutes he was off the pitch, Gray and Allan Clarke had found the net to make it 3-1.

With just five minutes of normal time, Leeds were cruising and Lorimer found his second of the match, nutmegging Barron from close range before Clarke and Gray founded their own braces in added time.
