A cat who had to have a leg amputated has made a remarkable recovery after more than 100 days in care – and is now in a loving family home.

Four-year-old Oscar arrived at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home with a broken hip and tooth.

Vets then decided to remove his left back leg after noticing it had lost a lot of muscle and had potential nerve damage.

The operation went well, and three-legged Oscar began the long road to recovery – assisted by staff at the famous southwest London animal shelter.

He had a variety of treatments to help him recuperate, including specialist laser therapy and physiotherapy to reduce his pain and swelling and regain strength in his other legs.

Despite everything he had been through, Oscar remained a loving and affectionate feline. He would often be found curled up in his bed, purring contentedly.

After more than 100 days in Battersea’s care, the cat was matched with a family, giving him all the love and care he deserves.

Since starting his next chapter, Oscar has become the next ‘top cat’, featuring in Battersea’s Wear Blue for Rescue campaign, with his face being spotted in the charity’s advertisements running across London throughout September.

Grace Oliver, Cattery team leader at Battersea, said: “After a tough start, it was incredibly rewarding to see Oscar’s transformation thanks to the efforts from everyone who cared for him at Battersea, from the vets who performed his surgery to the Cattery team who sat with him to give him plenty of love and fuss.
