Leeds United simply cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes in the January window as they did last season. The Whites opted against bringing anyone in which almost cost them their Premier League survival as they narrowly beat the drop on the final day of the campaign.
A new midfielder was top of the agenda last season, but after bids for Brenden Aaronson were turned down by Red Bull Salzburg, Leeds did not have any alternatives. A couple of additions this time around could really give Leeds the boost they need to push themselves away from the relegation scrap and towards mid-table.
So, with that in mind, here is a look at the positions Leeds should be prioritising in the upcoming window.

Left back
It goes without saying really, but Leeds simply must bring in a new left back in January. Pascal Struijk has filled in admirably so far this season, but his attributes remain best suited at centre back.
Not only would Struijk be able to revert back to his natural position, but an attacking left back would go a long way to helping the balance of Jesse Marsch's team. Junior Firpo remains an option, however injuries are continuing to impact him and in his only start of the season at Leicester City, he was less than convincing.
Striker
Again, there is no doubt that a striker is almost a must-sign for Leeds in the winter window. Wilfried Gnonto was brought in on deadline day, however at his age, his best position currently appears to be somewhere in the three behind the striker.
Rodrigo has scored nine goals so far this season, but he still seems better suited to be playing just behind a focal point. Patrick Bamford has shown glimpses at times this season, although he is very much struggling in front of goal right now and it is unfair for Leeds to place so much weight upon his shoulders after his injury problems.
Centre midfield
The partnership of Tyler Adams and Marc Roca has been one of the most promising aspects of Leeds' season so far. The two have complemented each other perfectly almost immediately, but if either gets injured for a sustained period of time, there are doubts whether anyone else in the squad can do what they do.
Adam Forshaw has continued to be blighted by injuries this season and cannot be relied upon, while Sam Greenwood's attributes still remain better suited for a position higher up the field. A midfield backup would take an enormous amount of pressure off the shoulders of both Adams and Roca.
