Many Louisiana families who lost food assistance in the past year may still qualify. State data show that 75% of people who lost SNAP benefits from July 2025 to June 2026 did so for procedural reasons, such as missed paperwork or interviews, according to a SNAP enrollment report from KFF Health News and Verite News.
Federal data cited in the report show that Louisiana lost about 170,000 SNAP enrollees, or 21%, over that period. A closure notice does not always mean a household is ineligible. In many cases, it means a deadline for documents or an interview was missed, and the family can apply again.
