Three Georgia Bulldogs make the top 50 college football players

Pro Football Focus recently released their list of the top 50 players in college football, and three Georgia Bulldogs made the list:

Malaki Starks: No. 13, No. 2 safety

Starks was a true freshman in 2022, but that didn’t stop him from becoming an impact player out of the gate. The youngster leg all UGA defenders in snaps with 847. He had a combined eight interceptions and forced incompletions, ranking No. 5 among all SEC safeties.

In 2023, his PFF run-stopping grade of 84.8 ranks No. 5 among all safeties in Power Five conferences. He’s the favorite to be the top safety taken off the board in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.

Carson Beck: No. 14, No. 1 quarterback

The early Heisman favorite is, somewhat unsurprisingly, the top quarterabck on this list. However, he checks in a little bit later than you would expect.

Beck had an impressive season last year, totaling 3,941 yards, the most in the SEC and third most in the country, on 302 completions and 417 attempts. Beck finished 2023 with 24 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a 167.9 passer rating.

His completion percentage of 72.4% was ranked the fifth best in the country as well. His season also put him in UGA record books, with the second highest completion percentage (behind Stetson Bennett in 2022), the second most passing yards in a season (once again, behind Bennett in 2022), and the fourth highest passer rating behind Bennett (176.69 in 2022), Aaron Murray (174.82 in 2012), and Jake Fromm (171.21 in 2018), in UGA history.

Tate Ratledge: No. 38, No. 1 guard

Tate Ratledge is the top guard on the list because of his dominance in pass blocking. He had a strong 87.4 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2023, ranking third out of all Power Five guards. He also finished third in lowest pressure rate allowed (1.3%) and PFF pass-blocking grade on true pass sets (83.8).

Even in his first year as a starter in 2022, he showed dominance, with the fourth best pass-blocking grade (87.1), the third lowest pressure rate allowed (1.4%), and the second best pass-blocking grade on true pass sets (85.6).

One notable snub is Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams, who is often projected as a first round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
