Over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded in Columbus, Ohio, resulting in three fatalities and three individuals sustaining injuries due to a shooting in the Italian Village neighborhood. The Columbus police department received reports of the shooting just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, describing the sound of what appeared to be semi-automatic or automatic gunfire and vehicles quickly leaving the scene.
Upon arrival at the location north of downtown, officers were met with a chaotic and distressing scene where six individuals had been shot. Tragically, two men were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third man succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. The deceased were later identified as a 27-year-old, a 26-year-old, and an 18-year-old.
Additionally, three other victims were rushed to hospitals for medical treatment. One individual was listed in critical condition, while the other two were reported to be in stable condition. Fortunately, all three are expected to survive their injuries.
Law enforcement officials are actively engaging with witnesses who are cooperating with the investigation. While a nearby bar is situated at the corner of the incident, it remains unclear if any of those involved had ties to the establishment.
At present, no suspects have been identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy and determine the number of individuals involved. The Franklin County sheriff's office has deployed a drone to assist in documenting the extensive crime scene, where police are meticulously collecting evidence and video footage.
