A shopping centre was put in lockdown with people evacuated after three young people were shot in Glendale, Arizona, with one left fighting for their life.
Police said that the shoot out began after an argument between two groups in the Tanger Outlets, near Westgate Entertainment District.
Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Ngalula said that three young people had been taken to hospital with one in a life threatening condition.
According to local news reporter Cody Tillich the shooting has left several juveniles injured.
He said: "At least three confirmed injuries in shooting at Tanger Outlets off Loop 101.
"Injuries are among juveniles and appear to be critical."
A witness working at a kiosk said they heard five gunshots ring out at around 2.45pm local time on Wednesday.
When the alarm was sounded shoppers and business owners were ordered to barricade themselves inside.
Another onlooker told azfamily.com: “We heard what sounded like possible gunshots and then there was a tonne of people (who) came running around the corner and they were screaming, a couple of people screamed, ‘he shot somebody’ or ‘he’s shooting'."
He said that he too then ran off with his girlfriend to the car park.
The man said he then saw someone running from police.
He continued: “He had a backpack that he had dropped on the floor next to the concrete barrier that was on the side of the highway.
“He started climbing the concrete barrier and ran down into the drainage ditch and cops started chasing him.”
Glendale Police tweeted: "Shooting at Tanger Outlets near 95th Ave and Glendale. At this time we have at least one victim. We are asking all businesses to lock down and people to stay out of the area. Media staging will be at Cabelas parking lot."
It later said that they were not looking for anyone else involved in the shooting.
It tweeted: "Primary searches have been completed. Secondary searches are underway. No suspects are believed to be outstanding at this time. If you have loved ones at Tanger go to orange lot at university of Phoenix stadium to wait."
Arizona governor Doug Ducey tweeted: "We are working closely with @GlendaleAZPD to monitor the situation at Tanger Outlets, support law enforcement, and get updates on those who have suffered injuries.
"Our prayers are with those impacted and the brave law enforcement professionals responding to this emergency."
