Three wayward camels featuring in a live re-enactment of a nativity play caused traffic chaos when they escaped and made their way onto a nearby road.
The animals ran rogue in Brisbane on Friday morning during a production at Bridgeman Baptist Community Church, in Aspley.
After unlatching the gate of their own pen, they were spotted ambling down nearby Albany Creek Road.
While the animals stuck in their lane, they were on the wrong side of the road and appeared unperturbed walking into the oncoming traffic.
Social media users were quick to post videos of the bizarre incident online, which showed motorists slowing down to avoid collisions with the animals.
Bridgeman Baptist Community Church posted on social media to say: "Our camels got a bit lost on the way to Bethlehem!
"Gladly they’re back safe and sound now".
Thomas, a pastor at the church, told 96Five FM the phone was ‘going off’ with people calling to alert them to the news.
"Apparently what has happened is they have themselves unhinged their little gate themselves," he said.
"They’ve got out themselves and they just thought, 'hey, why don’t I just go for a bit of an extra stroll.
"So they’ve just done a lap of the property, walked on the side of the road – you know where the bikes go – and they just walked around."
Whane Morris, who owned the camels, said he was "surprised" to have gotten the call.
Meanwhile, social media users found the great escape hilarious.
One person said it had "brought a lot of smiles to people's faces".
"Even sticking to the left in there [sic] own lane. Just going the wrong way. Gotta Love it," one person said.
"Sounds like they couldn’t find any wise men at the church so they went looking elsewhere’, another joked.
Local police said they were unaware of the incident on Friday.
