If you try to delete Meta's new Threads app, you risk losing out on your Instagram, according to the app's Help Centre.
The new social media app, which aims to rival Twitter, was launched today by the tech company, which also Instagram.
The app lets users move over their existing follower lists and account names from Instagram - but deleting threads risks also deleting your instagram account.
In the app's 'Help Centre' on the section 'Deactivate your Threads profile', it says: "You can always delete individual posts. To delete your Threads profile and data; you'll need to delete your instagram account."
The page also explains that if you delete your instagram account, your Thread's profile will also be deactivated.
Similar to Twitter, the new social media app focuses on text posts. It allows users to post up to 500 characters of text and up to five minutes of video and links, as well as pictures.
People who have already downloaded the app have taken to other social media platforms to warn others over the risk of accidentally deleting an Instagram account, with many saying they are going to avoid Threads for this reason.
The Threads app can be downloaded from Google Play Store or the Apple Pay Store onto an Android or iOS device.
Those who already have an Instagram account can use their login details to sign into the app, with users being able to select if they want a private or public profile before they start posting.
Celebrities have already begun flocking to Threads , with singer Shakira posting “Well hello threads ”.
Chef Gordon Ramsey posted: “Is this where I find the lamb sauce??”
