Thousands of people across Merseyside have woken up to a second day with no water after a burst water main closed a major road yesterday.
People living in the L21, L30, L9, L23, L10 and L22 postcodes are currently without water or are experiencing low water pressure due to a burst main on Church Road/Dunnings Bridge Road in Litherland. A section of the road remains closed in both directions from Park Lane to Hawthorne Road after it was submerged in water in the early hours of Saturday.
Engineers have been working through the night to make the necessary repairs and restore water to households across Merseyside. This morning, United Utilities issued an update, describing the repair work as "complex".

A statement on the water company's website said: "Once again, huge apologies for the continuing disruption to your water supplies.
"Our top priority is to get your taps flowing again as quickly as we can and our water tankers are continuing to pump water into the network to help restore your supplies. You may find you have an intermittent supply or lower pressure than normal during this time.
"Please be assured that we are working hard to get things back to normal and we have been working through the night to repair the problem.
"We have a bottled water station at Netherton Activity Centre L30 3TL- open from 8am, there is plenty of water available and bottled water will be provided free of charge to customers. We are also looking to set up some additional stations today and we’ll keep you updated on their locations."
Liverpool's Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram, is one of many residents who have been left without water. Yesterday, he tweeted: "These things happen, but it would be nice if @unitedutilities updated residents with a ‘rough’ estimate of when we could expect water to be restored. Asking for the wife!!"
Bottled water will be available at Netherton Activity Centre on Glovers Lane until 9.30pm. One resident described the incident as a "nightmare" while another said they "can't even flush the toilet".
One man, who was in the area this afternoon, told the ECHO neighbours were worried about the prospect of houses flooding near the burst main. He said: "It looks like two separate leaks pumping quite fast out of the central reservation, flowing down to Copy Lane and deep in the next junction up."
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “One of the water mains on Church Road burst in the early hours of Saturday (23rd July) morning. United Utilities staff are at the site and will be working through the night to make the necessary repairs.
”Residents can get the latest update by checking the United Utilities website - https://www.unitedutilities.com/emergencies/up-my-street/l21-liverpool/ The repairs may take some time so United Utilities are bringing in water from other areas of the network and using water tankers to help with this so they can get water to taps.
”United Utilities hope to be able to get water flowing for the majority of residents in the next few hours, some will be affected for longer but will be kept updated on progress. In the meantime, United Utilities have a bottle water station set up at Netherton Activity Centre, Glovers Lane, L30 3TL that will be there until 21:30.
”A section of Dunnings Bridge Road was closed earlier today as a result of the burst water mains. People travelling in the area are advised to plan their route.”
