Thousands tune out of RTE's Late Late and Tommy Tiernan Shows in ratings blow

More than 5,000 people tuned out of watching Tommy Tiernan’s chat show on Saturday night, while the Late Late Show saw viewership dip to less than 400,000.

Tiernan saw a minor drop in ratings at the weekend after gaining back more than 20,000 viewers the previous weekend.

Figures released by RTE reveal an average 385,000 tuned into the RTE One chat show.

A spokesman for RTE said: “The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday, 3rd March had an average audience of 385,000 (Live Plus VOSDAL) on RTÉ One (inc RTÉ One +1) and a 38%share. To date the series has had 516,000 streams on RTÉ Player.”

It appears Tiernan has won back the audiences after suffering a 60,000 loss early last month.

On Saturday night, viewers were left in stitches after comedian Dara O’Briain joked that he had come up with the idea for Tommy's chat show years before he did,

"I proposed this show about 20 years ago. I'm not saying you stole it but..." he laughed.

Campaigner Rebecca Tallon de Haviland and author and activist Matthew Collins also joined the guest line up.

Meanwhile, RTE revealed that an average 376,000 tuned in to the Late Late Show on Friday night but said 421,000 tuned in to hear Emma Doran’s account of what a ‘silent ride’ was at 10:22pm.

A spokesman said: "Friday night’s Late Late Show was watched by an average of 376,000 on RTÉ One and RTÉ One+1. It was watched by 39.4% of the available audience.

“Friday night’s Late Late Show attracted an incredible peak viewership of 421,000 (Live Plus VOSDAL) on RTÉ One.

“Funny woman Emma Doran’s Late Late debut where she hilariously explained to host Ryan Tubridy what a ‘silent ride’ was accounted for the programme’s peak minute at 10:22 pm.

“Among the 15-34 age demographic, it was watched by an average of 39% of the available audience. "On RTÉ Player, Friday's episode has generated 21,500 streams so far. The current series from September onwards (including the Toy Show) has well over 1 million streams.”
