Thousands of Irish people are in for a cash boost next week as the Back to School Allowance is paid.
Parents are set to receive a direct payment of up to €285 per child into their bank accounts,
The 'Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance' will start being paid out from Monday, July 11.

Parents can get either €160 or €285 per child still attending school, depending on their age.
While some parents and legal guardians are automatically confirmed for the payment, others have to apply.
Applications opened last month and remain remain open until September 30.
Who is eligible for the payment?
You may qualify for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance if you are:
- Getting a social welfare payment (including Working Family Payment and Back to Work Family Dividend or a Health Service Executive payment
- Taking part in an approved employment scheme (back to work scheme)
- Taking part in a recognised education or training course
- Getting a Daily Expenses Allowance (formerly called Direct Provision Allowance) for a child in education (or for yourself if you are 18–22 and returning to full-time second-level education)
- Involved in an Area Partnership Scheme
- Attending a FET (formerly Fás) training course
How much are people entitled to?
Families are set to receive a different payment from previous years, with the payment now including:
€160 for each eligible child aged four to 11 on or before 30 September 2022
€285 for each eligible child aged 12 to 22 on or before 30 September 2022
This second amount applies to children between the ages of 18 and 22 years who are in full-time second-level education in a recognised school or college.
If a parent or legal guardian had two children over the age of 12, they would receive a total Back to School Allowance of €570.
How to apply
The Back to School Allowance will be automatically paid to the majority of families by the Department of Social Protection.
Those that qualify for the payment should have received a letter of confirmation that they will get the allowance by June 20.
If you have not received this letter by the date set out, you will need to apply to make sure you are eligible for the payment.
You can apply online using the MyWelfare portal from 20 June or you can contact the Department of Social Protection at 0818 11 11 13 or by email using bscfa@welfare.ieance of €605.
