Almost 150 parks and open spaces in Glasgow have been identified as potential locations to extend the city’s tree population and reduce CO2 emissions.
There are an estimated 2 million trees in Glasgow which make up just 16% of the city’s 17,730 hectares, with plans recently approved to expand the city’s tree canopy by a further 1% by 2030.
The Glasgow Tree Plan, which has now been approved by the council’s City Administration Committee, could see tree planting on a further 189.4 hectares of land over the next seven years, potentially introducing over hundreds of thousands of new trees to the city.
