Thounsands of fans of Netflix’s 1899 have signed a petition to save the series after its creator confirmed it has been cancelled after one season. The multi-lingual sci-fi drama dropped on the streaming platform in November and proved a big hit among viewers.
It centres on a group of immigrants travelling to America on a steamship before a series of mysterious events throw them into a supernatural nightmare. The show was created by German showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, who returned to the platform following their hugely successful series, Dark.
The creative and romantic partners confirmed they had plans for a second and third season of 1899 should it be greenlit. But on Monday (January 2), Odar posted a statement on Instagram confirming the series would not be renewed by Netflix.
