Tens of thousands of jobs are vulnerable to redundancy across Liverpool as a health report warns “the worst is ahead of us” as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.
With inflation and energy costs forecast to continue increasing, a stark warning has been issued on its impact on people and businesses across the city by the Liverpool Health and Wellbeing board. Ahead of its meeting on Thursday, a report drafted by city health officials said those hardest hit will be “poorer households as they spend twice the share of budgets on food and energy bills compared to the wealthiest households.”
The analysis said in the next six months, the cost of living crisis is likely to produce “the most significant drop in household disposable incomes for 50 years.” It added that the crisis may also impact those on so-called middle incomes and “a cohort of people that do not usually require state support.”
