Thousands of Hydro attendees left queuing after gig's start time

THOUSANDS of concertgoers missed part of a Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer gig at the Hydro as they were forced to queue for up to an hour after it started.

Doors for the co-headline tour's Glasgow stop opened at 6.30, which was also the gig's start time.

Concertgoer Stephen Blythe told The Scottish Sun: "We paid £90 each for tickets to see the Weezer/Smashing Pumpkins co-headline tour - snapping them up back in October as soon as they went on sale as it has been years since Billy Corgan et al came to Scotland.

"The opening act started at 6.30pm, at the same time the doors opened, so there was literally no way for anybody to actually see the beginning of their set.

"We ended up missing six of the 20 odd songs, despite turning up with plenty of time. There were plenty of people around us who were angry about the situation, and talking about claiming refunds."

Blythe said that other venues on the tour had opened before the start time to let attendees time to settle in, and questioned why it didn't happen at the Hydro.

Co-op Live in Manchester, which will host the tour on June 13, has a doors-open time of 5.30 and a start time of 6.30.

The OVO Hydro has been contacted for comment.

Weezer were founded in 1994, and have sold over 35 million albums, scoring four Grammy nominations and a win in 2009 on the way.

Smashing Pumpkins came together in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois, and have over 30 million album sales to their names.

The group has won two Grammy awards, and two MTV awards in 1996 for music videos from their third studio album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
