Thousands of Brazilians turned out in Dublin’s city centre earlier today to have their say in a Presidential Election taking place in their home country over 8,500 km away.
Approximately 12,000 Brazilians from all over Ireland registered to vote remotely in a polling station set up in Erin School of English on North Great George’s Street in Dublin. It is set to be the country's most polarised election in decades, with leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva favoured to beat right-wing incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.
The Dublin language centre on North Great George's Street in Dublin opened at 8am this morning, and the polls in Dublin are expected to close at 8pm this evening. Video footage shared on social media and seen by Dublin Live has shown thousands of people queuing for hours in long lines around Parnell Street, Hill Street, Gardiner Place and North Great George's Street to cast their votes.
